Plans to build a brand new state-of-the-art full size 3G pitch here at Go! Active have taken one step closer to becoming reality after being given the go-ahead by our planning committee.
Together with the Football Foundation, we are investing £700,000 that will see a full size floodlit 3G Football Turf Pitch replace the existing five-a-side pitch and two grass pitches, which in recent years, have suffered from waterlogging during the winter months.
The proposal will now be submitted to the Football Foundation board in October for final approval.
The Football Foundation and Derbyshire FA produced a Local Football Facility Plan for Bolsover District in 2018 which identified a number of priority projects. One of these was the installation of the 3G pitch due to local demand, the necessary space to accommodate one and it being part of an existing facility which can handle bookings and manage the pitch.
Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, Councillor David Downes said, “This is exciting news and we are just waiting for the final approval so we can get started. The current pitches are not fit for purpose anymore as we have huge problems with postponements due to inclement weather, so this new facility will enable us to provide football all year round.”
To help accommodate more players and games, once built, the large pitch can be split down into two 9x9 pitches, two 7x7 pitches and four 5-a-side pitches helping to provide more opportunities for people to play football.
Cllr Downes added, “We have a huge demand for people wanting to play football, but don’t have the facilities. So by investing in this new pitch with its multiple markings, it will give us the ability to split it down into smaller pitches meaning we can provide more opportunities for people to get active and gain the maximum possible football developmental outcomes from the site footprint.”
As part of the plans, a landscaped bund and a 2m high acoustic fence will be formed between the new development and houses to the south, and part of the eastern boundary of the proposed pitch.
